Giuseppe Rumerio from Italy is one of the world’s most gifted carvers. He’s not only known for religious sculptures with intricately carved people and/or scenes, but is also considered one of the world’s greatest animal sculptors, so much so that every collector wants his signed wood carvings.
Rumerio began woodworking at the age of 14 as an apprentice. He attaches great importance to the authenticity of hand-carving. “Nowadays,” he said, “few still sculpt solely by hand like me. As sculptures can be made by machine, the artistic creation has been reduced to industrial production.”
Rumerio pays close attention to detail and quality. Below is a selection of his works, which fully show his great carving skills.
