April Showers bring May flowers. Flowers are gorgeous and a succulent is perfect for some extra greenery. But what about fruit plants? Fruit seeds can blossom into gorgeous plants! Here are 3 easy-to-plant fruit plants perfect for spring and summer.
1. Pineapple Plant
Pineapples are a major trend for 2018. Show off your on-trend style at home with an easy to plant pineapple crown.
Step 1: Pick a Healthy Pineapple
If the leaves on the crown are green and firm. If they are, congrats, you got a healthy pineapple!
Step 2: Prepare for the Planting of the Crown
The crown of the pineapple is best for planting. Pull the crown of leaves off or safely use a knife to cut the crown off. THe less fruit attached the better. Remove lower leaves and damaged leaves. Place the crown under a cool, dry place for a few days, allowing the stem to harden.
Step 3: Allow the Pineapple to Grow Roots
Once the crown/stem has dried, it’s time to let the roots grow. The stem should be submerged in the water and the leaves should stick out the top. Place near a sunny window and let the roots grow. The process could take several days or up to a few weeks. Change the water every couple of days or the plant could rot.
Step 4: Plant the Pineapple
After the roots have grown a few inches, prep a pot to transfer the plant. Fill a 6-inch pot with garden soil that has a 30% blend of organic matter, this is the recommended blend for a healthy pineapple plant.
Step 5: Take Care of Pineapple
Water the soil once a week and fertilize 2X a month during the summer. Look for a blooming flower. It could take years for a flower to bloom but a beautiful pink flower may grow in the middle of the crown with blue flowers around.
2. Lemon Forest:
Remember growing up, accidentally swallowing a lemon seed and thinking “OMG what if a lemon grows in my stomach?!” Of course that’s not possible, but you can plant a lemon seed and turn it into a lemon forest.
Step 1: Grab Some Lemon Seeds
Put the lemon seeds on water and peel the outside of the shell of seeds.
Fill your favorite pot with some soil. Put the seeds into the soil with pointy side up.
Step 2: Plant the Lemon Seeds
Cover the seeds with the pointy side up. Spray water every 2 to 3 days to start the growing process. One week later, you will be amazed to see some green leaves popping out from under the stones.
Step 3: Watch the Lemon Seeds Grow
Keep the lemon forest healthy by spraying the plant every 2 to 3 days after it sprouts. Enjoy your adorable, easy to plant lemon forest.
3. Dragon Fruit Plant:
Dragon fruit is gorgeous and yummy! As you open a dragon fruit you can see thousands of seeds. Just get a small spoon of fruit and you can magically have a beautiful little plant.
Step 1: Separate and Clean Dragon Fruit Seeds
Cut the dragon fruit in half and use a spoon to get some fruit into the bowl. Add water and separate the seeds from the fruit. Get the seeds out and gently rinse them. Place them in water for one day, rinse again. Now you have seeds that look like black sesame. Dry the seeds with a paper towel and place them on the table.
Step 2: Plant Dragon Fruit Seeds
Once seeds are dry, use a pot without a hole in the bottom for planting. Spray the soil with water and put the seeds on the soil. Then spray water on the seeds and use plastic wrap to wrap the pot. Spray every day till they sprout.
Step 3: Watch it Grow
The plant will grow to 1 cm within a week. The black shells will fall off and there will only be green. Within 2 weeks, they can grow 2 cm and the leaves come close together and become firmer. After about four months, the plant will start to grow little needles. And after sixth months, it will grow into a cute chubby cactus. Tip: Be patient with this plant, it’s easy to plant but takes some time to bloom to it’s full potential.
