Recycled Plastic Bottles Fuel Renegade 3D Pen

Renegade is the first 3-D pen fueled by recycled plastic bottles and bags. It reuses them by turning them into 3D art. Other options available use filaments which cost money to replace and must be tossed after use. Renegade provides stable 3D printing and reduces the amount of plastic waste produced by your household. Renegade also provides the ChupaCut, a secret weapon that transforms bottles into plastic strips, ready for use. Their Kickstarter campaign ends August 28th.

How it works

    • Warm up bottle using heat gun, hair dryer or stove
    • Cut off bottom of bottle using scissors or blade
    • Extend telescopic holder if necessary
  • Hold on and start pulling

Renegade uses powerful extrusion and heating to transport, destruct, and melt the plastic tape produced by the ChupacCut bottle shredder or even standard filaments. The rotating screw forces the heated plastic to move forward evenly and extrudes it from the nozzle. The molten plastic then cools down rapidly into a solid and stable structure.

The temperature is adjustable from 50 degrees to 320 degrees Celsius using a single controller. The speed can also be controlled at the touch of a button.

The ChupaCut has curved slots which reduce friction force and provide an efficient rotation of the bottle. This keeps the blade sharp for longer and results in an easy, fast, and stable cutting process. The blade is completely enclosed and can only be removed using another similar-sized blade, so it is 100% safe. The telescopic holder keeps even large bottles stable in any position. The handle is hollow to safely store spare blades or other accessories. The ChupaCut can be used as a standalone for other creative DIY projects.

The stand is compact and minimalist, but holds six cartridge spools for plastic strips, with additional storage for standard filament strands. It can also store and display your ChupaCut. The stand comes in matte black or white.

Renegade can also act as a head for your 3-D printer or CNC machine. The PRO edition features a built-in LCD screen and integrated Control Port for precision when 3-D printing.

Renegade also offers 3-D bottle strips for people who are looking for more colors or don’t have many recycled plastic bottles to use.

How it Helps the Environment

Approximately a trillion plastic bags and bottles are used worldwide annually, and currently we can only recover around 5%. It can take up to 1000 years for plastic to degrade, whilst every year a million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals die from the plastic in our oceans.

Using a single Renegade pen, you can help protect the environment by preventing around 200 acres of plastic bag and bottle waste. When you choose not to use standard filaments you also save about 120 liters of crude oil every year, thus minimizing the negative impact we all have on nature.
